Murder suspect’s death a suicide, say Police

A 31-year-old man suspected of having murdered his former girlfriend committed suicide by shooting himself in the head at the Windhoek Police Station on Thursday, Police reported yesterday.

Murder suspect Sem Shavalohamba Nepunda (31) shot himself at the Police Station at about 17h45 on Thursday, Police reported in the daily crime bulletin yesterday. Nepunda had been a suspect in a murder case, in which Mathilda Agnes Immanuel (28) had been found dead with gunshot wounds in a riverbed along Lister Street in Windhoek North on Tuesday last week.Other sources indicated that Nepunda shot himself during a break in his interrogation at the offices of the Serious Crime Unit in Windhoek. An officer who was questioning him left Nepunda alone in his office as he stepped outside for a few minutes, it is claimed. In that time, Nepunda apparently discovered that his pistol, which is also suspected to have been the weapon with which Immanuel had been killed, had been left in a cabinet in the detective’s office. The gun also still had bullets in its magazine – which was realised by the officer only when he heard a shot ring out.An inquest investigation into Nepunda’s death has been opened, the Police reported.Nepunda had been a suspect in a murder case, in which Mathilda Agnes Immanuel (28) had been found dead with gunshot wounds in a riverbed along Lister Street in Windhoek North on Tuesday last week.
