A teenager (17) accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death at Okahandja over the weekend was allegedly in a toxic relationship.
The girl was remanded in custody yesterday after appearing in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, whose identity cannot be revealed because she is a minor, allegedly stabbed her live-in boyfriend (23) to death during a domestic dispute behind a church at Saamstaan on Saturday afternoon.
Community members say the two began dating when the accused was 15 years old and have a six-month-old baby.
The victim allegedly abused the girl throughout their relationship.
“He was always beating her up,” residents claim.
A family member of the victim describes the relationship between the two as toxic, saying they often argued about money.
“It was not a thing of Saturday, it is something that started a long time ago,” the family member says.
“Everyone knew the lady was the violent one, she was the one who liked sharp objects. Two months ago, she hit him with a sharp object while they were at the farm and he fainted in the field,” he claims.
The accused, who is originally from a farm around Grootfontein, is currently not attending school or working.
“She does not have a birth certificate or any documents on her,” the victim’s family members say.
The deceased, according to the police report, went to the bank on Saturday.
The girl was waiting for him at home to give her money for groceries, the police say.
They say the deceased was under the influence of alcohol when he got home.
“Upon enquiry by the girlfriend about the money for groceries, he allegedly started insulting her and beat her in their room. During the fight the girlfriend took a knife and stabbed the boyfriend on the left side of the chest and ran away,” the police report states.
They say the deceased was found on the ground, after which his sister rushed him to hospital in a taxi.
He was declared dead upon arrival. The accused then reported herself to the Okahandja Police Station, where she was arrested.
She appeared before magistrate Masule Kwizi, while prosecutor Penouua Katjiukua represented the state.
Katjiukua said the teenager was screened by a social worker, who recommended she undergo a normal trial as the offence is serious, and that she remain in custody.
The court ordered the accused to remain in custody.
The case was postponed to 19 February 2026 for further investigation.
