MUN and Namdeb in wage agreement

DIAMOND company Namdeb and the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) this week concluded a two-year wage agreement, covering the period April 1 2005 to March 31 2007, which resulted in a 7,5 per cent across-the-board increase for employees within the bargaining unit.

In a statement issued by MUN and Namdeb, it was agreed that with effect from last April, salaries would be increased by 7,5 per cent. However, the wage increases for the period April 2006 to March 2007 as agreed, would be subject to negotiations between the two parties should the annual inflation rate fall below 5,5 per cent or above 7,5 per cent.Commenting on the agreement, Namdeb General Manager Rob Smart congratulated both parties on the mature way in which they reached the agreement.He urged all employees to work hard to reach the set targets and uphold the values of the company.According to the Group Human Resource Manager Percy McCallum and the MUN Regional Chairman, Eliphas Iita, both parties applauded the agreement and committed themselves to continue working together to ensure that Namdeb continues to be a profitable company for the benefit of its shareholders and to make a lasting contribution to the Namibian economy.However, the wage increases for the period April 2006 to March 2007 as agreed, would be subject to negotiations between the two parties should the annual inflation rate fall below 5,5 per cent or above 7,5 per cent.Commenting on the agreement, Namdeb General Manager Rob Smart congratulated both parties on the mature way in which they reached the agreement.He urged all employees to work hard to reach the set targets and uphold the values of the company.According to the Group Human Resource Manager Percy McCallum and the MUN Regional Chairman, Eliphas Iita, both parties applauded the agreement and committed themselves to continue working together to ensure that Namdeb continues to be a profitable company for the benefit of its shareholders and to make a lasting contribution to the Namibian economy.
