IN defiance of a municipal order and despite pressure by residents of Eros Park and Klein Windhoek, an MTC cellphone tower has been erected in Eros Park.
Last Friday, municipal CEO Niilo Taapopi ordered the mobile telecommunications company to stop building towers and consult with concerned residents from the areas.
MTC’s Tim Ekandjo, however, said they were done listening to these people.Liz Sibindi, the municipal spokesperson, yesterday said no immediate action was being planned against MTC.She said the matter would be discussed at the next town council meeting. According to her, previous public consultation about the towers ‘was not representative enough’.Anita Brand of the Bowker Hill concerned group said they feel let down by the municipality. ‘We are bitterly, bitterly disappointed.’
