MTC has officially launched this year’s cycle of its MTC 4 Life project, this time shifting its focus to the ǁKharas region, aiming to benefit 30 young people.
The initiative is set to provide the young Namibians with a direct pathway out of unemployment through a combination of vocational training and financial backing.
The programme targets self-employed and unemployed individuals between the ages of 18 and 35.
It aims to turn raw interest into sustainable micro-enterprises. Beneficiaries will undergo seven days’ intensive practical training across six specific trades: hairdressing, barbering, baking, leatherwork, sewing, and cellphone repair.
Each trade is limited to small groups to ensure trainees receive direct mentorship and a high level of technical skills transfer.
The project goes beyond the classroom by providing the practical means to start a business immediately.
Upon completion, each of the 30 beneficiaries will receive a professional starter toolkit tailored to their trade, alongside a N$5 000 seed grant.
MTC spokesperson Tim Ekandjo says the programme is a reflection of the company’s commitment to national development.
“We aim to invest in initiatives that change lives, empower youth, and contribute to building a Namibia that future generations can be proud of,” he says.
Ekandjo says the goal is to enable young people to move from a state of dependency to one of self-reliance.
The 2026 cycle is scheduled to kick off in April.
