Mr Gay Namibia, who is due to take part in Mr Gay World on 31 July, says that he is in need of a national costume for the international competition. This will be the second time that Namibia is represented at the event which will be held in Antwerp, Belgium.
Participants will be judged by in three categories – sports, culture and human rights. The competition will include the world Outgames which will will be held from 31 July to 5 August, with the grand finale rounding off the first weekend of the festivities on Sunday 4 August.
“I have never felt so honoured and privileged to be the voice of my people as I am currently. The ability to represent my country or rather my community on an international platform is my biggest achievement to date,” says an elated Ricardo who can’t wait to fly off to Belgium.
It’s still easy to see what earned Ricardo the coveted Mr Gay Namibia title, he is extremely blessed in the looks department with an ineffable charm to boot. He is also very passionate about human rights and says the struggle of the country’s courageous human rights and LGBTI activists continue but that lobbying won’t stop until they are recognised and acknowledged in the Namibian constitution.
According to the competitions official website, ‘Mr Gay World (MGW) is an annual contest for gay men, seeking to establish ambassadors for LGBT and human rights, with winners of national contests competing as delegates in a variety of categories including leadership, sports, swimwear modelling and knowledge of LGBT world affairs’.
The competition takes place over an intense four days and is one of the most publicised gay contests in the world. It is also an event that aims to unite the gay community all over the world in a strong common cause.
“I’d like to urge our talented local designers to take this opportunity to sell and market themselves at a global event, this will give them international exposure and I will do the benchmarking for their respective brands,” says Ricardo, who says he is torn between Ovahimba and Oshiwambo traditional attire. Interested designers can contact Ricardo via social media on Twitter @CardoAmunjera or on his Facebook page, Ricardo Raymond Amunjera. Those who wish to vote for Ricardo, go to http://t.co/JJ9TmGVLP5
