JOHNNY Hakaye, a Swapo MP in the National Council, says unless business people stop their dubious dealings with criminals, Namibia’s law enforcement agencies will remain “toothless”.
Speaking during debate on the Criminal Procedure Bill, Hakaye claimed that some criminals maintain undisturbed and sound relations with many top business personalities. Hakaye, nicknamed ‘Little Maxuilili’ by his colleagues in the House, said this was making the country’s law enforcement toothless. He said some officials are also alleged to be collaborating with criminals.”We need to do so much in order to rid Namibia of these criminals,” he told the House. He also questioned how criminals managed to develop good relationships with those supposed to enforce the country’s laws.”Could this be because our law enforcement personnel are poorly trained?” he asked. The Criminal Procedure Bill was passed by the National Council before the House went into recess on Thursday.Hakaye, nicknamed ‘Little Maxuilili’ by his colleagues in the House, said this was making the country’s law enforcement toothless. The Criminal Procedure Bill was passed by the National Council before the House went into recess on Thursday.
