OSHAKATI-BORN gospel, house and hip-hop artist Moses Shangheta (23) commonly known as King Mozie, has been enjoying the limelight with his music that is featuring South African talents Master Kg, Mr Style and Hume Da Muzika.
His new single ‘Kalvary’ has been making waves around the world. The song debuted at #54 on ITunes and currently has 29108 Streams on Spotify mostly from South Africa, USA, Canada, Australia and Zambia.
This was Shangheta’s first gospel song with big names from outside the country. He says he is not surprised by the positive feedback from the public and is expecting the song to do well outside Namibia.
“Teaming up with talents from outside your country is a great initiative because you get recognised in those countries and it builds your brand to another level. Working with South Africans was awesome and I learnt that South Africans love collaborating and they put music before money. Namibians usually put money first but at the end of the day, you can make more money when you collaborate,” he said.
Shangheta says he knew Hume Da Muzika since early in 2020 when he contacted him to work on some events.
“I have a great music relationship with Hume Da Muzika who has a good relationship with many big South African artists. We wanted to work on two songs before ‘Kalvary’. Hume Da Muzika sent me the beat which was produced by Master Kg and Mr Style and asked me to put my vocals on it,” he says.
Shangheta says the song brings out the message that Jesus sacrificed his life to save us. “I am singing about the location where Jesus was crucified to remind my fans that Jesus died on the cross for us. I also sing about giving glory to God our creator. I praise God who makes everything in my life possible. This song is a reminder to listeners to be grateful,” the artist says.
Shangheta says he loves trying new styles which make his music stand out.
“People say my music is international. Many Americans who have listened to my music can relate to my story telling. I make music for different people. When I do house music I do it for people to have fun and dance. With hip-hop I usually motivate people and express how I feel. When I do gospel songs I encourage people to seek light in God,” he said.
Shangheta plans to release another song featuring Longnus Huncho from Tanzania soon.
