Moto-X shoot-out in cattle-country

FOR the second time this season, the Namibian Moto-Cross circuit will make a stop-over at the beautiful moto-x track in Gobabis this coming Saturday.

The event, to be sponsored by Castle Brewing, will be the last local event before the major event in the year, the annual Namibian Moto Cross “Inter-Series”, to be held by the Windhoek Moto Cross Club on October 30 and November 6 at Gallina Moto Cross Park. In the 50cc Class, the 2004 champion Eric Garbers will once again demonstrate his fine riding skills. The only girl in this class is Claire Brendel who will become the runner-up in this category this year. The still vacant number three spot on the rostrum will be fought out between Juhan Botha and Matthew Nederlof.Erhard Pajewski has been dominating the 65cc class and is also participating in the South African Championships. He seems to be following in the footsteps of his grandfather Erhard, as well as that of his uncle Nicki, who died in a freak car accident some years ago.But one must never underestimate little Mark Sternagel, who will do his utmost to prevent Erhard from getting maximum points.Other strong contenders for a podium finish include little Daniel Pajewski and Claude Brendell.Brannigan “Animal” Wise is favourite to win the 85cc class although Bjorn Bierbrauer still has a theoretical chance to catch him.Kai Pritzen usually excells in Gobabis, while other riders who could come into the reckoning include Eckhard Hall, Alexander Howard and Jaco Loots.Loots suffered a horror crash in Swakopmund in the beginning of the season, but has recovered and has shown clear signs of regaining his old form.Multiple champion Michael Swanepoel is still leading the 125cc class, but he is just a few points ahead of his young rival Uwe Sternagel.Judging by the previous races, a mouthwatering showdown between these two protagonists should be on the cards.Frank Klosta, Tommi Gous and Eckhard Waldschmidt will all go flat out for the vacant third spot on the podium.Sascha Becker demonstrated some excellent riding at the last race at Gallina and could also make an impression. In the Open class, local hero Rainer Becker will start as the firm favourite at his home track in Gobabis. He should be challenged by the likes of Ronni Adams, who always excells on this track, Gerhard Simon from Omaruru and Siegfried Pack.Shawn Bruwer took too many “soil-samples” last time so we do not expect fireworks from him, but one never knows! One of the more entertaining classes is the Clubmen’s Class where Jessica Ratheiser is reigning supreme. But she can expect stiff competition from the likes of Gert Engelbrecht, Timo Martins, Robert Liebchen and Bernd Marting. After all classes finish their heats, the “Castle King of the Dirt” race will take place over 20 minutes plus one lap.Only the fittest will survive this gruelling race! The prize giving ceremony will take place at the Big Five Central Hotel on Saturday evening.
