More Swapo quitters in Ohangwena

TWO Swapo district officers in the Ohangwena Region resigned from the party last week and joined the new Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP).

According to the Ohangwena Swapo Regional Co-ordinator, Nestor Shuukwanyama, the two are Josef Halweendo, who was the Ondobe District Treasurer, and Naatan Kambonde, the Oshikango District Treasurer. “Both came to my office at Eenhana and handed in their Swapo membership cards,” Shuukwanyama said. The Namibian has learnt from reliable sources that both Halweendo and Kambonde have joined the RDP.Asked whether there are more Swapo members who have indicated that they want to resign from regional, district, branch or section positions, Shuukwanyama said he was not aware of others. He also said that the party’s Secretary General, Ngarikutuke Tjiriange, did not visit Eenhana last week with the aim of getting Swapo councillors to take an oath of allegiance, but only to prepare those attending this week’s party congress. He said besides the Regional Councillor of Oshikango Constituency, Nghiyavelwa Nambinga, all Ohangwena Regional Councillors were going to the Congress. He could not say why Nambinga was withdrawn.Nambinga could not be reached for comment.”Both came to my office at Eenhana and handed in their Swapo membership cards,” Shuukwanyama said. He could not say why Nambinga was withdrawn.Nambinga could not be reached for comment.
