More options for Keetmanshoop municipal bills

RESIDENTS of Keetmanshoop can now pay their municipal bills at the post office, thanks to an agreement between Namibia Post Limited (NamPost) and the Keetmanshoop Municipality.

The agreement, which became operational on September 2, follows a similar understanding between NamPost and the Rehoboth Town Council almost a year ago, and allows residents to pay their water, rates and other municipal bills at any computerised post office in the country. The benefits of this, according to Rosa Beukes, Area Manager for NamPost at Keetmanshoop, is that people will now be able to pay their bills even when the municipality is closed. The municipality shuts its doors at 15h30 on weekdays, while the post office closes at 16h30.The municipality is not open on Saturdays, while the post office is.”It’s because of our infrastructure,” says NamPost Agencies Services Manager Benjamin Jakobs, on what prompted the initiative.”NamPost has 120 post offices across the country, of which 35 are computerised.”He adds that many people who own houses in Keetmanshoop live in Windhoek, and they will now be able to pay their municipal bills without having to drive all the way down just to pay their bills.Jakobs says NamPost plans to have all its offices computerised by the first two months of next year, and negotiations are underway with other municipalities and town councils to make similar arrangements. The benefits of this, according to Rosa Beukes, Area Manager for NamPost at Keetmanshoop, is that people will now be able to pay their bills even when the municipality is closed. The municipality shuts its doors at 15h30 on weekdays, while the post office closes at 16h30.The municipality is not open on Saturdays, while the post office is.”It’s because of our infrastructure,” says NamPost Agencies Services Manager Benjamin Jakobs, on what prompted the initiative.”NamPost has 120 post offices across the country, of which 35 are computerised.” He adds that many people who own houses in Keetmanshoop live in Windhoek, and they will now be able to pay their municipal bills without having to drive all the way down just to pay their bills.Jakobs says NamPost plans to have all its offices computerised by the first two months of next year, and negotiations are underway with other municipalities and town councils to make similar arrangements.
