NEW YORK – The reaction author and documentary maker Michael Moore got at the Republican National Convention last week, from insults to sustained boos, was “tragic”, says the director of a documentary critical of the Fox News Channel.
“It was tragic that with all of the complicated problems in the world today, they needed to take five minutes to boo Michael Moore,” Robert Greenwald said. “It also saddens me, because it’s part of a pattern… which is character assassination. It’s not the substance… it’s going after the person, and that’s very unfortunate.”Greenwald’s latest work is Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism. The documentary says the news channel is nowhere near its motto of “Fair and Balanced”.The film was initially only available online, but is moving into theatrical release.Greenwald was in town this week for a counter-convention event put together Wednesday night by Alternet, celebrating the film.Greenwald said the reaction to Moore did show he was making an impact.”I wish they would boo me for five minutes.I don’t mind being booed, I guess that it means that you’re effective,” he said with a laugh.”When people begin to assassinate your character… you’re starting to get to them.”- Nampa-AP”It also saddens me, because it’s part of a pattern… which is character assassination. It’s not the substance… it’s going after the person, and that’s very unfortunate.”Greenwald’s latest work is Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism. The documentary says the news channel is nowhere near its motto of “Fair and Balanced”.The film was initially only available online, but is moving into theatrical release.Greenwald was in town this week for a counter-convention event put together Wednesday night by Alternet, celebrating the film.Greenwald said the reaction to Moore did show he was making an impact.”I wish they would boo me for five minutes.I don’t mind being booed, I guess that it means that you’re effective,” he said with a laugh.”When people begin to assassinate your character… you’re starting to get to them.”- Nampa-AP
