Namibian model Alica Mokhatu (23) is currently in Vietnam competing for the Miss Charm International title while advocating for mental health through her ‘Empowering Young Voices’ campaign.
Miss Charm Namibia national director Bobby Kaanjosa of the Walk by Bobby Kaanjosa Institute has confirmed that Mokhatu is currently preparing for the preliminaries on 9 December, with the finals set for 13 December.
“So far they just have been in boot camp, doing shoots and sponsored visits. Yesterday, they had their closed doors, and our queen says it went well.
“Tomorrow the rest of the competition begins with the preliminaries, where they will compete in swimwear, evening wear, and national costumes,” he says.
Kaanjosa says he has high hopes for Mokhatu.
“Mokhatu is a strong candidate, and she is doing amazing. She brings in a different energy of class, elegance, and beauty to the pageant.
“After our success last year, placing in the top 10, I believe she will score a better place for Namibia since she is prepared.”
This year, Mokhatu made it to the Miss Namibia top 10 finalists.
She says her efforts to advocate for the mental health and well-being of young people in Namibia is well recognised.
Mokhatu says advocating through her ‘Empowering Young Voices’ campaign will be top priority during the main pageant.
“I’ve decided to not be selfish … It is not about me, It’s about helping others realise the potential that is held in the power of their own voice, the strength of their dreams, and the impact of changes that must be made,” she says.
This year, Miss Charm International has attracted over 50 foreign participants.
