Rundu Chiefs FC technical director Rusten Mogane says he is open to a contract extension as the club prepares for its return to top-flight football.
Mogane, who migrated to Rundu last year, was offered the technical job by the club’s chairman, Agrippa Haindongo, and took on the new challenge with no hesitation.
The former Brave Warriors’ mentor played a pivotal role in helping the technical team get the gold-and-black outfit promoted to the 2025/26 football season.
Speaking to Desert FM recently, Mogane said: “I will gladly accept the contract extension, because it was a very difficult task to play in the first division, because at the time I retired from football totally but kept myself updated on what was happening in local football.
“I’m keen to be back in the premier league and help where possible – not just with Rundu Chiefs FC, but also with the growth of football generally.”
“I’m quite sure most of the technical team will stay for the next season.”
Rundu Chiefs FC chairman Haindongo has expressed his satisfaction with the technical director’s work.
“I’ve already told him he must report for duty on 30 June, and that the technical team must start with preseason very early.
“. . . because when you kick off with the preseason early, you tend to perform better,” Haindongo said.
Mogane said the challenge of getting promoted to the elite league is out of the way, and the “real work” will start as they rub shoulders with Namibia’s football giants.
“It is not the same as gearing up for the first division.
“We will start with the preseason, because it’s a very important season coming up against the likes of African Stars FC, FC Ongos, Tigers FC and Unam FC.
“Since it is a premier league campaign, we have to also look for new players, because this is a totally different league,” Mogane said.
“So, we need reinforcement . . . looking for new players and scouting for new talent.”
Mogane said they had the opportunity to watch players from the premier league clubs who travelled to Rundu, and have identified a few players to engage for possible signing.
He said as technical director, he will assist where possible by advising the head coach and players on how to better a situation that could benefit the club.
“The technical director’s responsibility is basically overseeing the whole process of the technical work done by the coaches.”
