Just last week Mo' (full name Monika Ndeshitala Absalom) released her first single with an accompanying music video at a star-studded event at Vinyls Music Café in Windhoek. The AndrewOnTheBeat-produced song is titled 'Baby Mama', and features Page from Namibian duo Ethnix. The video was directed by PDK's Dion Auala. The venue was packed on Wednesday night with guests in attendance ranging from fellow artists, producers and creatives all showing their support. Before the debut, there were performances by Franklin and DeeA, and Ethnix' other half, Etjo.'Baby Mama' is a catchy Afro-pop tune which highlights the thrill and fears of forbidden love and relationships. The music video perfectly encapsulates this with its high-quality visuals and intriguing concept. The video launch was hosted by model and personality Leena Shipwata, who allowed fans to make monetary bids on Mo's next studio session. There was a lot of buzz on the night, and Mo' got to have a taste of what's to come.“It's nothing like I thought. I have so much more respect for artists now, because it's a lot of work,” she said. She said she is excited to be part of the industry, and plans to remain consistent in her output. Those in attendance were excited for the artist and wished her success, with Auala giving an impromptu speech on the importance of unity in the music and entertainment industry.– Anne Hambuda is a screenwriter, poet, columnist and creative thinker.
