THE First Princess in the Miss Malaika Namibia pageant, which was held two weekends ago, Celeste Goliath, has pledged her full and unconditional support to the winner Helena Mungunda.
“I accept the independent judge’s decision (to choose Mungunda) and respect it. I also do appreciate the support of the Namibian public and the other judges.I will fully support Helena Mungunda during her reign as Miss Malaika,” Goliath said.In a report, ‘Now, legal action threatened in Malaika squabble’, published in Friday’s edition of The Namibian, Goliath was quoted as having said the outcome of the pageant was “really unfair and that she should have been the winner”.The remark was in fact made by one of the six finalists, Seleste Baulet, and not by Celeste Goliath.The Namibian sincerely regrets the error and apologises to Goliath for any embarrassment caused to her and her family.Last week the mother of the Second Princess, Penny Uudjombala, indicated she planned to take legal action following revelations that three of judges had voted for her as the winner of the beauty pageant.The Miss Malaika beauty pageant ignited controversy after six of the seven judges disclosed that none of them had placed Mungunda as the overall winner.Mungunda was judged the overall winner by businessman Mathew Gowaseb, who was designated as the “independent judge” and had the final say.Gowaseb has said Mungunda was chosen mainly because of the way she handled the question related to HIV-AIDS-the theme of the competition.I also do appreciate the support of the Namibian public and the other judges.
