The success of this year’s Miss Curvy beauty contest has given pageant founder Mercy Mushaninga new wings to fly to a higher level. Mushaninga said this year’s edition of the unique pageant was a huge leap from last year’s inaugural event.
She is now aiming to host Miss Curvy Africa, which she has provisionally penned for next year.The model groomer said Miss Curvy Africa would begin with hosting the pageant in Zimbabwe for models from ountries with embassies in Harare.’It might be too early to talk of scouting for models in other African countries, but I hope engaging models from various countries that are currently housed in Zimbabwe will be a good starting point,’ said Mushaninga.’Miss Curvy does not have strict guiding principles. Anyone who has curves and keeps a flat tummy is eligible depending on the age group that we will prescribe for the pageant. One does not have to have a serious modelling background to participate because we just look for physical beauty with emphasis on the curves.’ Miss Curvy differs from conventional pageants that require contestants to be slim and tall. Mushaninga said she started the pageant with an aim of liberating females that have a passion for modelling yet do not ‘fit in’ conventional pageants.- www.allafrica.com
