Ministry of Education responds

* THE Ministry of Education has taken time out to respond to a number of the complaints about the Education Sector, which have been SMSed to The Namibian:

* COULD I please know why the Government does not consider art as an important subject at primary schools? It is a shame to see learners struggling to draw. Another worrying factor is the Ministry of Education employing people not trained in art to teach the subject at school level.- All teachers in possession of a Basic Education Teachers Diploma (BETD) have received art training.Art is a compulsory non-promotional subject in all grades at Primary school level. In Grade 8 and 9, learners are taught ‘Art in Culture’ as a compulsory non-promotional subject. Those who are interested in taking up art, have a choice between Performing Arts and Visual Arts as a promotional subject in Grade 8-10.* Minister of Education, inform us about the outstanding debt of individuals students who received study loans from Government. We have to graduate in less than two weeks and yet we have debt due to Unam.- The Ministry of Education has settled all the outstanding loan funds it owed to students at various institutions.Students with tuition fees higher than the loan sum should settle the remaining amount themselves.Students whose loans have not been paid at all should contact the Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) division in Ministry of Education.Yours in Education Public Relations OfficeAnother worrying factor is the Ministry of Education employing people not trained in art to teach the subject at school level.- All teachers in possession of a Basic Education Teachers Diploma (BETD) have received art training.Art is a compulsory non-promotional subject in all grades at Primary school level. In Grade 8 and 9, learners are taught ‘Art in Culture’ as a compulsory non-promotional subject. Those who are interested in taking up art, have a choice between Performing Arts and Visual Arts as a promotional subject in Grade 8-10. * Minister of Education, inform us about the outstanding debt of individuals students who received study loans from Government. We have to graduate in less than two weeks and yet we have debt due to Unam.- The Ministry of Education has settled all the outstanding loan funds it owed to students at various institutions.Students with tuition fees higher than the loan sum should settle the remaining amount themselves.Students whose loans have not been paid at all should contact the Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) division in Ministry of Education.Yours in Education Public Relations Office
