Ministry of Education responds

THE Ministry of Education has taken time out to respond to a number of the complaints about the Education Sector, which have been SMSed to The Namibian: I LOST hope when I visited Ongwediva College of Education on Monday, November 26.

More than 1000 students sat for an entrance test for lower primary and they only needed 70 candidates. Hundreds will be thrown on the streets. Why can’t the Ministry introduce or employ these people to work in areas such as Okongo and give them opportunity for BETD insert, like those who are currently working with standard 8 pass.Learners have to be taught by qualified teachers. The BETD Insert was introduced to allow under-qualified and unqualified teachers to upgrade their qualifications while they are teaching at the same time.Currently, the entry requirement for a teacher is a 3 year or 4 year tertiary teaching qualification.I WANT to ask the Permanent Secretary of Education some questions: How far is the ministry with the problem of Vista University graduates of 1999 for their qualification to be recognised. Now we are forced to enroll for BETD in service programme or have done it already. How do you expect us to perform our duties well? Please PS do something about this issue. To find out if your qualification is recognised, contact the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA), Public Relations Office at 061-384100 for more information.Yours in Education Public Relations OfficeHundreds will be thrown on the streets. Why can’t the Ministry introduce or employ these people to work in areas such as Okongo and give them opportunity for BETD insert, like those who are currently working with standard 8 pass.Learners have to be taught by qualified teachers. The BETD Insert was introduced to allow under-qualified and unqualified teachers to upgrade their qualifications while they are teaching at the same time.Currently, the entry requirement for a teacher is a 3 year or 4 year tertiary teaching qualification.
