Mine turns up the heat

SKORPION Zinc Mine has donated 70 Environ stoves to residents of Rosh Pinah’s Tutungeni informal settlement.

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Oranjemund Constituency Councillor Toivo Nambala applauded the company for supporting the local community. ‘Today Skorpion Mine again demonstrates in three ways such support. Firstly the mine is providing relief to less fortunate members of society. Secondly, it is demonstrating support for environmental conservation and specifically waste recycling, and last for the local economy of Rosh Pinah,’ Nambala said. Nambala also welcomed the creation of Karas Environmental Enterprises, a small local enterprise that does waste management and recycling, and which develops fuel pellets from recycled waste paper. Nambala urged Rosh Pinah residents to keep the mining town ‘clean and green’. ‘Littering and waste dumping willy-nilly is unacceptable behaviour,’ Nambala said. ‘Although we have not reached a crisis situation the trend is of concern, therefore friends we need to stop such practices.’ The Environ stove was designed by local emerging entrepreneur Joseph Murong. luqman@namibian.com.na
