Former Miss Universe and Namibian businesswoman Michelle McLean has been featured on the Nasdaq billboard in New York’s Times Square in the United States. This comes after she was named Top Global Business Woman of the Year in Tourism and Investment by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

McLean, who won the Miss Universe crown in 1992, continues to be recognised internationally for her work in tourism, investment, and philanthropy. In December 2023, she and her husband, former Manchester United goalkeeper Gary Bailey, were inducted into the IAOTP Hall of Fame, where McLean also received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

This week’s Nasdaq billboard unveiling celebrated selected honourees across various industries.

McLean, who also hosts IAOTP’s Top Industry Professionals International Radio Podcast, says she was honoured to represent Namibia on such a visible platform.

“I am honoured to be featured. I’m proud to hold our Namibian flag up high. It is an honour to see my photo up in New York and to be celebrated with other professionals from around the globe,” she says.

She adds that the recognition provides opportunities to promote Namibia internationally, particularly in tourism and investment.

“There has been an increase of North Americans travelling to Namibia, not only as tourists, but also for investment opportunities,” McLean says. “I am glad for this platform to promote my country on an international level. It is wonderful to be side by side with so many professionals in different industries.”
