Meroro meets Nhundu

ZIMBABWEAN middleweight boxer Edward Nhundu arrived in Namibia yesterday to battle it out with Namibia’s Vikapita Meroro in what could be a terrific clash over eight rounds between the two exciting boxers in Windhoek.

Boxing trainer and promoter Nestor Tobias, who fixed the fight, confirmed to The Namibian Sport late yesterday that Nhundu was in town and that the fight will take place as scheduled. He said the international professional fight, which aims to test the two neighbours in the division, will take place as scheduled, and so will the other fights on the evening. He said the entrance fee is N$50 per person.Tobias also confirmed that both boxers were weighed in at the boxing office yesterday and that all systems are in place for the fight tomorrow.Meroro has only lost once in his career of ten professional fights and will be going up against Nhundu, coming straight from his first defeat. The young Meroro, who turned 22 earlier this year, suffered his first defeat at the hands of Ukrainian middleweight champion Stanislav Kashtanov about a month ago.Earlier, Meroro said he does not fear the Zimbabwean and it is even better for him not to know how he fights.Nhundu is less experienced than Meroro.as he only has five fights under his belt.He has lost once, won three times, with one draw.It will not be easy for the Zimbabwean to walk away with a victory, considering the support that the local boxer enjoys. But despite that, Meroro will also be under pressure as he will be expected to win.He will go into the fight with a mission of proving his critics wrong after he was ousted by the Ukrainian. The Namibian has since grown into a tough opponent in most of the professional fights that he has been involved in and was involved in over 40 fights as an amateur.Meroro, who is generally not a big-talking character, regards the fight as a challenge despite his opponent’s lack of international experience. He said he will try to gain as much experience as possible from all the fights that come his way, as his ultimate prize would be the world title one day.In other fights on the night, Teofelus Jatileni takes on Bume Shitaleni in the light welterweight division, with junior lightweight Abraham Ndauendapo making his pro debut against Joseph Katenda.Lightweight Peter Malakia fights Matthew Niitembu, while in the bantamweight, Albino Felesianu takes on Jatoroora Tjingaveta.Johannes Gabriel will fight in the flyweight category against Peteneni Elago, while in the welterweight class Simon Negodhi will duke it out with Abmerk Shindjuu.Daniel ‘Open Fire’ Kashela will also be in action against Tommy Hango.Telecom Namibia, Pupkewitz and Ready Bite Meat Market sponsored the event.
