Meola earns 100th cap for US

CARY – Goalkeeper Tony Meola made his 100th international appearance for the US football team in a 1-1 friendly draw with Jamaica on Tuesday.

Meola had not played for his country since 2002 but US coach Bruce Arena, using the Jamaica fixture as a final run-out for domestic players before naming his World Cup roster, saw the game as a fitting opportunity to honour him. A veteran of three World Cup finals squads, Meola, 37, made his international debut in 1988 in a 1-0 friendly loss to Ecuador.A year later, he was his country’s first choice in the position and would remain there for the 1990 and 1994 World Cups.-Nampa-ReutersA veteran of three World Cup finals squads, Meola, 37, made his international debut in 1988 in a 1-0 friendly loss to Ecuador.A year later, he was his country’s first choice in the position and would remain there for the 1990 and 1994 World Cups.-Nampa-Reuters
