Men arrested for stock theft

POLICE in Oshana this week arrested two men in connection with stock theft.

Oshana region police spokesperson inspector Thomas Aiyambo said the suspects were arrested in Oshakati and Onanime village, north-west of Oshakati, on Tuesday morning.

He said the suspects, aged 40 and 44, who were found in possession of suspected stolen cattle, also attempted to bribe police officers who had gone to arrest them.

Aiyambo said the duo offered to pay police officers N$4 000.

The suspects stole 12 herd of cattle each valued at N$8 000, the police revealed.

The cattle have been recovered, said the police. The recovered cattle are being temporarily kept at Onanime village awaiting the veterinary’s office for further handling.

“The cattle are suspected to have been smuggled in the country from Angola,”Aiyambo said.

All the cattle do not have ear tags and stock brands, only earmarks, Aiyambo said.

It is alleged that the suspects only furnished suspicious documents from Angola and, not Namibian documents, to prove ownership.

Both suspects are detained at Oshakati holding cells, Aiyambo added.
