Mayor’s drunk-driving case postponed

HENTIES Bay Mayor Paulus Imbamba, who faces charges of drunken and reckless driving, failure to ascertain damages and to report an accident, as well as driving without a driver’s licence, will have to appear in the Henties Bay Magistrate’s Court again on November 13.

Imbamba appeared briefly in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, just to hear that the Prosecutor General still has to reach a decision on the matter, which dates back to 2005, when Imbamba and a Henties Bay resident, Jorene Human, were involved in a collision in the town. Imbamba, who had earlier scheduled an ‘urgent’ press conference for yesterday, called it off on short notice on Tuesday. He indicated earlier that the conference was to air his objections to the reappointment of Henties Bay CEO Pieter Gurirab, who was granted a second five-year term last week.Another issue he was expected to address related to recent allegations made by Republican Party President Henk Mudge.Mudge accused Imbamba of orchestrating an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) into two Henties Bay councillors. The two, the UDF’s Lena //Hoëses and Civics representative Anna Hamutenya, were arrested in June for allegedly committing an offence listed under the Anti-Corruption Act.Their case was postponed until October 2.Imbamba, who had earlier scheduled an ‘urgent’ press conference for yesterday, called it off on short notice on Tuesday. The two, the UDF’s Lena //Hoëses and Civics representative Anna Hamutenya, were arrested in June for allegedly committing an offence listed under the Anti-Corruption Act.Their case was postponed until October 2.
