Mauritius cuts GDP forecast

PORT LOUIS – Mauritius has cut its 2006 economic growth forecast to 4,7 per cent from an earlier 5,1 per cent due to lower than expected output in its key sugar sector, the Central Statistics Office said on Monday.

“The forecast for economic growth is now revised downwards to 4,7 per cent,” the Central Statistics Office said in its quarterly bulletin. “The main assumption used is a sugar production of around 550 000 tonnes, lower than the normal production of around 570 000 tonnes, attributable to unfavourable climatic conditions prevailing so far.”-Nampa-Reuters”The main assumption used is a sugar production of around 550 000 tonnes, lower than the normal production of around 570 000 tonnes, attributable to unfavourable climatic conditions prevailing so far.”-Nampa-Reuters
