Mathematics made easy

GRADE 12 pupils can now look forward to easier mathematics studies.A former mathematics teacher recently completed writing a text book and teacher’s guide titled ‘Y=mx+c to success – Advanced subsidiary level’.

The 436-page book and teacher’s guide were written with mathematical research methods and summaries of countries like Singapore, United States of America and the United Kingdom.

According to Karen D’Emiljo, she realized over the years that there was a gap when students crossed over form Grade 7 to Grade 8, as they struggled with maths, and this lasted up to Grade 12.

“I decided to create something that explains everything, taking it from the base level until the advanced stage. My dream throughout my 22-year experience was always to show that mathematics is not too difficult. With the right approach and practice, pupils can pass easily,” she said.

The books are also combined with free online explanations and tutorials on YouTube, with

quick response links that can be scanned with any smartphone or computer with Internet connection.

D’Emilio said the book will be a great asset to the new Cambridge AS level syllabus,

that the country is moving to, as it is designed to make the new level clearer and understandable.

“In order for Namibia to keep up, it is necessary to make a change from High level to AS level mathematics. Therefore, when I started writing the book, I knew that I would have to put in extra information and examples to help pupils and teachers, and thereby bridge the gap between the old syllabus and the new one,” she added.

The books are already on sale at various bookstores in the country.
