‘Masua’s appointment an insult to SPYL’

A MEMBER of the Erongo Swapo Party Youth League executive committee has described president Hage Geingob’s appointment of 22-year-old Patience Masua as a new member of the National Assembly as an insult to the youth wing and to most loyal members of the party in general.

Reinhold Shipwikineni disgruntlement comes after Masua was appointed as an MP recently. She was sworn in today. In an interview with The Namibian on Tuesday, Shimutwikeni said he believes Masua’s appointment does not make sense because the member of parliament has not played a pivotal role in the country’s political system or its development.

“Geingob is just appointing people who do not have a magnetic personality. Some of us are bona fide members of the Swapo Party who grew up in the party and have been playing pivotal roles in it. We made extraordinary contributions to the party to assist it to become strong. President Geingob doesn’t care about us,” said Shipwikineni.

He advised members of the SPYL to be vigilant and not allow themselves to be used as hand clappers.

“Boys and girls, and we must not be used as Harambee foot soldiers to praise weaknesses, failures, corruption and incompetences of political appointees. This is a clear sign that Swapo Party structures are no longer active, that’s why we are being used as foot soldiers to protect rubbish things on social media,” added Shipwikineni.

He suggested that the party create two centres of power, one for the party president and the other for the country’s president.
