Landless People’s Movement lawmaker Utaara Mootu has raised concerns over a nursing post interview process at Mariental, after interview questions allegedly leaked to candidates from northern Namibia to gain advantage over southern candidates.
“The interview papers have allegedly been leaked to northern people, thereby raising questions as to how this happened. This gives them an upper hand over the southern people,” she says.
Mootu says those conducting the interviews are tribally motivated, prompting her party to call for a halt to ensure due process.
She adds that this has perpetuated tribalism concerns and demonstrations are ongoing.
“There are even people saying they will not appoint Nama people because they are drunkards,” she explains.
She describes such utterances as unacceptable and urges the Ministry of Health and Social Services to intervene and ensure there is no discrimination.
Prime minister Elijah Ngurare, who responded as the head of government business, condemned the tribal remarks, adding that such behaviour should not be allowed in society.
He says the matter is receiving the attention of the Hardap region, and the line minister has also been alerted of the matter.
