A NUMBER of nurses at the Mariental state hospital in Hardap region claim they have not received overtime pay for the past four months.
In a letter dated 13 July the nurses wrote to the regional health director Yvonne Stephanus, they said their overtime payment is their “hard-earned money”.
“We sacrificed our time to wake up while resting to serve the region and this matter is very sensitive to us,” the letter reads.
The group claimed they are being treated unfairly because institutional workers and drivers receive their overtime pay on time.
The nurses said several meetings they had with the hospital’s management to address the issue did not yield any positive results.
Rumours have it that their overtime claims have been withheld from being processed and approved as they did not fill in the claim form in their handwritings, the nurses said.
The nurses expressed hope that the issue of overtime claims will be attended to, and their unpaid money paid before the end of this week.
Attempts to get comment from Stephanus yesterday proved futile as her cellphone went unanswered.
The regional health director also did not respond to questions emailed to her.
