THE first leg of the 2023 motocross (MX) dished up many firsts for the 2023 MX season hosted at the brand new MX tracks outside Omaruru.

Apart from being the first event for 2023 on a brand new track, it was also the first time a woman took part on a full electric motorcycle, which saw Aneke Lee end second in her class.

Speaking to Top Revs from Omaruru, organiser Ingo Waldschmidt said the event was well organised and well attended by both riders and spectators.

“The people from Omaruru really put something together to make this event a success,” Waldschmidt said about the design and build of the new WKMX tracks outside town. This happened despite being initially sceptical about the cost and effort involved in designing and building an MX track.

“I could not believe my own eyes. The Omaruru community is small and everyone helps each other,” Waldschmidt said.
The tracks are amazing and not too difficult to ride at all, he said.

The day also went smoothly, and the medics were basically ‘jobless’ as no incidents or casualties were reported. This is a good indication of preparations by both officials and riders alike.

In the meantime, Uys Prinsloo shared his excitement about Lee taking second position in the 125cc Women’s MX class on a full Talaria electric motorcycle.

Prinsloo said taking into consideration that the Talaria was stock standard and had no racing specs added, Lee still managed a second place finish against the conventional 2-stroke MX engines.
