The Hardap region has seen a steady rise in drug-related cases from 2023 to date, with mandrax remaining the drug most often seized.
According to Hardap police deputy commissioner and crime investigation division head John Mwatongwe, mandrax continues to be the most common drug used and confiscated in the region.
“Based on statistics from 2023 to date, you can see Mandrax is the most common drug confiscated which means it’s the most common drug used in the region,” Mwatongwe said on Wednesday. Other drugs seized include crack cocaine and cannabis.
He said in 2023, 68 drug-related cases were reported, leading to 156 arrests, with the total value of confiscated drugs standing at N$979 430.
In 2024, the Hardap police made 239 arrests and recorded 150 drug-related cases, with the total value of drugs seized reaching N$850 412.
In January 2025, six cases were reported, with nine suspects arrested.
“The total value of these confiscations is still being calculated. However, the figures show that the situation is still worrisome.”
