Man shot with arrow at Ohangwena

ON Monday, Silas Kapembe (49) was shot in the stomach with an arrow, allegedly by a 17-year-old boy at Oshaango village in the Ohangwena region.

Ohangwena police spokesperson inspector Kaume Itumba said the incident occurred after the suspect’s goats invaded the victim’s mahangu field.

Itumba said Kapembe was taken to the Oshaango Clinic but later transferred to Onandjokwe Hospital.

Itumba could not provide further details on the victim’s injuries but said the suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Both the suspect and victim are residents of Oshaango village.

Itumba said the police are always trying their best to conduct community meetings to relay information on how to combat crimes in the region.

“The problem is with the community members. They do not want to refrain from these criminal acts and these people who commit crimes are those who don’t attend our meetings,” Itumba said.

He said the police are always providing information on the radio, and urge people to refrain from criminal activities.

“People should understand the law. We will arrest everyone who commits any crime,” he said.

Itumba said he is concerned that the Ohangwena region has recorded a high number of criminal offences, such as gender-based violence (GBV) and assaults.

“It is everyone’s concern, not only the police but even traditional leaders and political leaders. We need to work together and make the region a safer place,” he said.
