A man found living under a tree at Sigone village in the Kavango West region has returned to his makeshift shelter after a medical check-up at Bunya Health Centre.
Identified only as Patrick, the man has reportedly been living under the tree for over a month. During a routine patrol on Thursday, police officers took him for medical evaluation as he appeared disoriented and in poor condition.
Namibian Police chief inspector Raimbert Muronga said Patrick was not admitted to the hospital and returned to the tree afterward.
Muronga added that it is unknown if Patrick receives any support from government social programmes as he lacks any form of identification.
“He had no identification or known family, and there’s no shelter we could provide,” Muronga explained.
Patrick had no food, shelter, blankets, or change of clothes when discovered.
“His living conditions are extremely poor and pose a serious risk to his health, particularly due to exposure to cold weather,” said Muronga.
The police are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify Patrick or locate his relatives so he can receive proper assistance.
