Man reportedly shoots woman with arrow in Ohangwena

A man (32) has been arrested for allegedly shooting a 44-year-old woman with an arrow in the stomach at Eexwa village in the Eenhana district of the Ohangwena region.

Ohangwena crime investigation coordinator deputy commissioner Melanie Mbuuru confirmed the incident yesterday, saying it occurred around 21h30 on Friday.

“It is alleged that the suspect used a traditional bow and arrow to shoot the victim in the stomach and the arrow, as a result, got stuck inside the victim’s stomach,” she said.

She said the victim was transported to the Eenhana State Hospital in critical condition and later transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.

Mbuuru said the suspect was charged with attempted murder and is expected to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court today.

Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a man was stabbed over money for drinks at Ongwediva on Wednesday.

The Oshana region’s crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, says the incident took place at Omeege village.

He says the suspect had asked the victim (30) to give him N$20 for drinks, but the victim refused.

The two men then started arguing and the victim decided to go home.

“While on the way home, a few metres from the cuca shops, the suspect took a knife and stabbed the victim in the back and he sustained two open wounds,” Ndjadila says.

The victim was rushed to Oshakati State Hospital and his condition is stable.

The suspect has been arrested.

In an unrelated matter, a woman (20) was allegedly robbed at gunpoint of her cellphone and N$10 by two men at Ongwediva on Wednesday.

Ndjadila says the incident took place behind Mweshipandeka Senior Secondary School.

The two men were passengers in the taxi the woman had gotten into, he says.

“It alleged that just after Mweshipandeka Senior Secondary School, the driver changed the route and drove along the school’s fence. In the process, the two male passengers attacked the victim, asking her to surrender everything she had.

“One suspect took out a pistol and pointed it at her,” he says.

The men stole the woman’s cellphone worth N$3 500 and N$10 in cash, he says.

Ndjadila says the men allegedly threatened the victim, saying she should get out of the car and walk away without looking back to avoid being shot.

Police investigations into both matters are ongoing.
