Man linked to security guard murder remains in custody

Thimoteus Muronga

A man appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of murder for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend, a security guard, at the Tumweneni informal settlement at Rundu.

Thimoteus Muronga (39) appeared before magistrate Sonia Sampofu who denied Muronga bail due to the seriousness of the offence and to allow him to apply for legal aid.

Muronga was arrested on Monday for the alleged murder of Gissela Kapapero (46).

His case was postponed to 5 February 2024 for his second court appearance.

Public prosecutor Michael Munika represented the state in the matter.

The late Kapapero’s remains were discovered with multiple stab wounds at Rundu’s Ndama sewerage plant, where her body was allegedly dumped by her killer.

According to Kavango East crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, Kapapero was last seen on Sunday after knocking off from work at Tanhwe Security Services at around 06h00.

Kanyetu told the media earlier that Kapapero’s neighbours thought they had seen her at around 18h00 on Sunday.

Her remains were only discovered in the early hours of Monday by a bypasser at the sewerage plant at Ndama, who later alerted the police.

It’s alleged that Kapapero was raped before she was murdered.
