Man attacks elderly mother with panga for not preparing food

A man (34) from Oshihenge village in the Oshana region has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted his mother for not preparing food on Friday morning.

Police say the suspect returned home drunk from a cuca shop at around 02h30, demanding food. When he discovered there was none, he reportedly forced his way into his 66-year-old mother’s room and attacked her with a panga several times, causing serious injuries.

Following the assault, the suspect allegedly committed a sexual offence against a minor in the same house.

He remains in custody while investigations continue.

In other incidents over the weekend, at Klein-Aub a pensioner (70) was arrested on Friday afternoon after police found six bankies of skunk cannabis concealed on his body during a stop-and-search operation on the C24 Rehoboth-Klein-Aub gravel road at the Slaaipoort turn.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday. Investigations continue.

At Mariental’s Withuis location, police carried out two separate drug-related arrests early on Saturday. In the first case, a man (24) was found in possession of cannabis valued at N$9 500. In the second case, another suspect (24) was found with loose cannabis worth N$500.

Both suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
