Man arrested for stealing body parts from child’s grave

The Namibian Police have arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly dug up the grave of a child and removed body parts from it.

Police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said on Monday it is alleged that the man dug up a grave at a cemetery where a two-year-old child was buried at Tsintsabis in the Oshikoto region in April this year.

Shikwambi said the cemetery is about 200 metres from the suspect’s house.

She said family members of the child discovered signs that the child’s grave had been disturbed last week.

Footprints led from the grave to the suspect’s house. When the house was searched after the police had been notified, body parts including bones and a skull were allegedly found.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

A police investigation is continuing.
