The body of a woman (58) was found at an Otjimbingwe river bed on Sunday.
Erongo police spokesperson chief inspector Ileni Shapumba says Frieda Rooi accompanied a man (24) to his place on Saturday, where they spent the night.
The man claims he discovered that Rooi was unresponsive at about 06h00 on Sunday, the police say.
He then dragged her body to a nearby river, left it there, returned home and notified the owner of the house he stays at of the body at the river, Shapumba says.
He says Rooi had no visible wounds.
The man was arrested and will appear at the Karibib Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with murder,
alternatively rape, and defeating the ends of justice.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of Rooi’s death.
Her next of kin have been informed of the incident, and police investigations continue.
