A man at Emono village, at Okatana, was arrested after he allegedly intentionally ran over an 11-month-old baby twice with a car on Monday.
According to a police report released on Tuesday, the suspect became angry after a debate with a group of people at Emono Cuca shop.
“He jumped into his car and started chasing the group with his car,” Oshana deputy commissioner Fredrick Ndjadila says.
The commissioner says the baby was on the back of his mother, Rosina Iyambo, and she accidentally dropped him while running.
The suspect allegedly ran over the baby twice. The baby has been identified as Wendelinus Helao.
“The baby sustained head injuries and succumbed to the injuries upon arrival at Oshakati State Hospital,” Ndjadila says.
Ndjadila says the suspect ran away and his car was found parked at his house at Emono. He was brought to the police on Tuesday by the deceased’s two cousins.
Ndjadila says the suspect was arrested and detained at the Oshakati police station.
Meanwhile, at Ohendjele village in the Oshana region, the police arrested an Angolan suspect who allegedly raped an eight-year-old boy.
The suspect had been chasing children coming from school and pulled the eight-year-old into the bushes.
According to Ndjadila, the suspect’s age has not been confirmed as he has no formal identification.
The suspect has allegedly been chasing and raping the boy since August this year.
The suspect and victim are neighbours at Oupumako village.
Ndjadila says the suspect has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
