A man (26) is expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Friday after he was arrested and charged with the rape of a toddler (2).
The police in a report say the incident allegedly occurred in the Makanga area of the Linyanti constituency on Wednesday.
The man’s name is being withheld pending his court appearance.
The relationship between the minor and the accused had not been established yet.
The police are also investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal incident on the B8 road between Ngoma and Katima Mulilo. The event occurred at approximately 23h00 on Wednesday.
According to the incident report, a woman (37) died instantly after allegedly jumping from a moving pickup.
The deceased had been discharged from the Katima Mulilo State Hospital earlier that day and was being transported to Kapepiso village when she reportedly threw her health passport from the vehicle near Bukalo. Shortly after, she allegedly jumped from the moving pickup.
At the time of the incident, the deceased was travelling in the back of the pickup with the driver’s wife.
The driver (48) was found to be sober and in possession of a valid driving licence. While he has not been arrested, the police confirm that the investigation is active and currently at an advanced stage.
The body of the deceased has been transported to the Katima Mulilo District Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
Officials note that the next of kin have not yet been formally notified of the woman’s death.
