Johannesburg – The ANC Women’s League has labelled youth league leader Julius Malema’s past criticism of opposition leader Helen Zille sexist, Rapport newspaper reported yesterday.
‘And the sayings that then get made off as jokes, are really not all that innocent,’ African National Congress Women’s League leader Angie Motshekga said.’The aim of those sayings are to put the woman in her place. That concerns us as the Women’s League,’ she told the Afrikaans Sunday paper on the sidelines of the ruling party’s national general council meeting this week. ‘Men must realise there is a line that can be over-stepped,’ she added.She confirmed to Rapport after a session discussing gender issues that the ANCWL was referring to Malema when it expressed concern about sexist statements. Malema and Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille have had several verbal scraps, with the youth league leader calling her a ‘racist girl’ and describing her male-dominated provincial cabinet in the Western Cape as her ‘concubines so that she can continue to sleep around with them’. – Nampa-Sapa
