Maerua Parking Woes

Maerua Parking Woes

I WOULD like to air my views about the impracticality of the new Maerua parking area.

Every time I have to go there, I never know what scene to expect. The new parking design is chaotic to say the least. And frustrated drivers have started parking illegally in odd spots, obstructing other drivers when they need to reverse.I urge the traffic police to go there and I can assure them that plenty of tickets will be issued! And then there are the taxi drivers, who do not respect anyone or anything, anywhere.Last Saturday morning (not even end of the month!) the traffic was chaotic at Maerua. We waited behind a taxi that was just standing still, looking for customers.I waited patiently, then hooted, and when there was no response, I got out of my car and asked the taxi driver if he could move because he was obstructing a row of cars. This man had the audacity of saying “voetsek” and still did not move.I counted to ten, got back into my car and still waited, until I could reverse and take an alternative route. This is simply unacceptable, but what is the alternative? To get out with a gorilla bar and hit the taxi driver in the head? Or to damage his car? Or for the traffic police to simply start patrolling the parking area? Drivers are taking chances because they simply know they can, and in the meantime, parking in Maerua is becoming a more and more frustrating experience.Cecilia WindhoekThe new parking design is chaotic to say the least. And frustrated drivers have started parking illegally in odd spots, obstructing other drivers when they need to reverse.I urge the traffic police to go there and I can assure them that plenty of tickets will be issued!
