Madagascar has resumed the chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Council of Ministers.
The regional bloc will convene in Antananarivo from 12 to 14 August.
The country took over from Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
Madagascar’s foreign affairs minister, Rafaravavitafika Rasata, has called the decision a step towards economic cooperation between African countries.
“It reflects our determination to deepen regional integration, boost and galvanise economic ties, promote the free movement of goods, services and know-how, and build together an area of peace, stability and shared prosperity,” she said while accepting the chairmanship.
This marks Madagascar’s first time holding the meeting in its twenty years of joining the regional community.
The SADC meeting chairmanship was held by Zimbabwe since 2024.
The event is held as part of the preparations for the 45th Summit of Heads of State and Government.
