Ma /gaisa fans can prepare themselves for an exciting show when the dynamic duo of Raphael & Pele squares off against new kids on the block T-bozz & Staika.
This Saturday night, Namibian-owned Hoadadi Trading will host the Ma /Gaisa Rumble in the City event at Zoo Park in Windhoek, featuring a duel between two of the genre’s most powerful acts.
“This is actually the show of a lifetime. Organisers countrywide tried to bring these two great acts together on one bill but they have all failed. Hoadadi is now presenting ma /gaisa music lovers the chance of witnessing history in the making,”says Hoadadi Trading owner Sendelly !Gonteb.
“The show has all the ingredients to turn into a real dream event. Raphael & Pele represent the older generation of the genre while T-bozz & Staika appeal more to the younger generation. The former are loved for their energetic dancing while the latter are polished vocalists.”
!Gonteb says the show was inspired by a public plea to see the two groups together. It offers a one-stage, one-night-only scenario for fans of both Raphael & Pele and T-bozz & Staika.
Music guru Webster Snewe says: “The show is not just an event of fun. It brings together artists of two different generations. Raphael & Pele stem from the generation that was known as ‘Damara Punch’, which is the predecessor of today’s ma /gaisa music.”
“In essence, we want the younger generation to get a taste of our old music and to understand where we are coming from and where we are now. Our music has evolved for the better and today it is almost impossible to have any celebratory event without ma /gaisa music.”
DJ Webzito, as Snewe is known in music circles, says the show will create an unforgettable vibe that patrons will talk about and remember for a very long time.
Both groups are currently in the studio recording new material, providing another compelling reason for fans to be at Zoo Park this Saturday, says Webzito, who alongside DJ Che will be one of the two masters of ceremony for the show.
Raphael & Pele have wowed audiences with their hit ‘Xai //Na Gomasen’.
Propelled by their ‘/Gereseb’ dance, the duo has also released top hits like ‘/Nama Matere’ and ‘Petrus !Ganeb’.
T-bozz & Staika, on the other hand, have grabbed the imagination of the nation, especially the youth, with the well-crafted and sometimes hilarious lyrics in their songs.
Their singing ability is unmatched, which can be witnessed in their harmony. Word has it that their singing was shaped in school and church choirs.
They have produced hit after hit for the last several years, and their super hit ‘Sokolate,’ which first hit the airwaves in 2021, is still loved as if it were only released last month.
Composing and producing their own songs under the Coastal Beats label, they have become a prominent act in ma /gaisa music in recent years.
Their hit songs like ‘//Aegub !Na Uha Te”, ‘Chip’, ‘Ta //Naetiba Sao’, ‘Nauxube’, ‘/Namte a Ron’ and ‘Netira Gon’ make you want to jump up and break a sweat on the dance floor.
The evening offers top-class entertainment, and apart from the ma //gaisa stars lined up, patrons can also look forward to a class act by hip-hop star Jericho.
“We all know that Jericho is probably the best hip-hop artist in the country and he is also a great entertainer. The reason for bringing Jericho on this particular show is for him to be the icebreaker of the main stars of the show. He is also a crowd-puller,” Webzito says.
Other supporting acts include Jaliza, Georgie !Gobogos of ‘Sadu Khami Tara Tsa’, ‘Just Moxy’ with the hit ‘Ti Mamas’ and the brother duo of Prezz and Hatibalo, who took the local Afro-pop scene to another level with their hit ‘One Chance’.
The DJs of the night include Putchaz, Underwater and Falala.
Apart from promising the biggest sound and best lighting, the organisers have assured the safety of the crowd at the venue and there will be a stall with refreshments.
Damage for the early birds is N$100, while N$150 is payable at the gate. VIP tickets go for N$500 and they are limited.
The tickets are available from all Model (formerly Pick n Pay) outlets around the country or via webtickets.
