Lyrical Giant KK Starts from Scratch

ANY TIME he steps on stage, grabs hold of a microphone and starts spitting rhymes, Kadeen Kaoseb, better known as KK, makes audiences stop and listen attentively to his creative punchlines delivered over entertaining beats.

His last solo project was in 2010 and fans were getting restless, wondering where one of their favourite Hip-Hop artists had disappeared to. Well, he’s back and ready to entertain with his second album, ‘Start From Scratch’, which will be launched tonight.

KK says he initially started working on his second project in March 2013, finishing in October, but lost all his work when the studio was broken into.

“I was in the south at the time I heard the news and almost gave up completely,” KK says.

Determined to let nothing and no one hold him back, KK decided to get to what he knows best and that is producing some of the best hits, sure to entertain within and beyond Namibian borders.

“I came back and started afresh, hence the name of the album, ‘Start From Scratch’.” He describes the album as Hip-Hop with “a little soul in it”. He worked with artists like Lil D, The Truth and Mabosh and to ensure a quality product, KK also collaborated with MZ, Yannick, Prolific Article and Static Playa on the production.

“Expect to be surprised. I have grown a lot and I believe my maturity and growth is very visible in this album.”

While some people who got to listen to the new album feel that his first album ‘Genesis’ is his best work, KK is of the opinion that his latest offering is better than his first. The Hip-Hop mover and shaker said he is personally very excited about the album especially because it has been a struggle to finally get the product out there.

“This is one of, if not, the best Hip-Hop albums our beloved country has yet to see,” a confident KK says.

With Hip-Hop dominating the local industry at the moment, KK’s new album comes as a great contribution to the new direction the genre is taking. The quality of his work and lyrical creativity gives true meaning and identity to Namibian Hip-Hop.

The launch of ‘Start from Scratch’ takes place at the Supporters Sports Bar in Suiderhoff tonight, with performances by Lil D, Dice, Stacey Adam, Sean K, J-Black and the Bermuda Crew and a guest appearance by award winning Kwaito artist, The Dogg. Entrance is N$50 at the door. Paying N$120 gets you a copy of the album. The show starts at 19h00.
