Lüderitz residents raise concerns over petroleum sector local content policy

The Office of the President started with public consultations on a draft national upstream local content policy at Lüderitz on Monday.

The policy aims to promote skills development, local ownership and supplier opportunities in the petroleum sector for Namibians.

During the consultations, residents raised concerns over skills gaps and limited business capacity, stressing the need for development.

Consultations are expected to continue until 17 September in all 14 regions to provide ample time for input before finalising the policy.

This, according to the Presidency, is part of efforts to ensure every Namibian benefits from the upstream sector.

||Kharas governor David Gertze on Monday stressed the importance of inclusivity and shared prosperity, while deputy head of the Upstream Petroleum Unit Carlo McLeod reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaboration, skills development, job creation and local business empowerment.

The next public consultations will be held at Keetmanshoop on Wednesday and Mariental on Friday.
