Lüderitz pensioner gets Namibian citizenship after 45 years

Benjamin Beukes (61) has finally received Namibian citizenship after a lengthy battle of nearly 45 years.

Beukes was born in South Africa, but has lived in Namibia for over three decades. He married a Namibian woman in 1995.

“I am so happy and excited about this new chapter in my life,” he says.

Beukes expressed his gratitude to several community members and officials who played a role in him finally obtaining citizenship.

Among them is Susan Ndjaleka, a councillor from the //Kharas Regional Council, and Suama Kali from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security.

Their commitment to helping Beukes navigate the complexities of citizenship application made a significant difference to his experience, he says.

“I am pleased with the outcome and glad I could assist him with his citizenship journey,” Ndjaleka says.

With Namibian citizenship secured, Beukes can apply for a Namibian ID card and old-age pension grant
