Lüderitz Nest Hotel Turns 25

The Lüderitz Nest Hotel celebrated its silver jubilee over the past weekend, marking 25 years of exceptional hospitality and breathtaking scenery.

The hotel, officially opened by Namibia’s then president, Sam Nujoma, on 24 April 1998, has become one of Namibia’s most reputable four-star hotels.

The success of the Lüderitz Nest Hotel is a tale of collaboration and unwavering support. The hotel’s team has attended several international trade fairs, including the ITB in Berlin, the World Travel Market in London and the Indaba in Durban, to introduce to the world not only the hotel but also Lüderitz as a destination. This effort has paid off, with the hotel enjoying strong support from the government, parastatals, local and international companies, and travel trade partners.

Despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Lüderitz Nest Hotel has managed to weather the storm and emerged stronger, thanks to the hotel’s successful marketing mix.

At the anniversary celebration, the hotel treated its guests to a special silver jubilee presentation, showing how it has kept the same look and feel. It also used the event to chronicle its remarkable journey and as a celebration of its future.

Ulf Grünewald, one of the founders of the Lüderitz Nest Hotel, expressed gratitude to his team, the board of directors, clients, partners, friends and his partner, Pam, for their support over the last 25 years. He invited everyone to experience the warmth and hospitality that Lüderitz Nest Hotel offers, promising an unforgettable stay that would create lasting memories.

“We wanted to offer our guests something truly special,” said Tom Mutavdzic, one of the directors of the hotel. “This new luxury suite is the perfect way to do just that. It’s the ultimate in comfort and style, and we’re confident that our guests will absolutely love it.

“Ulf and I went for a spin in the Uris on opening day and got stuck in the sand,” he laughed. “Everybody at the hotel was up in arms because we were just missing.” He also shared a haunting image from 25 years ago. “This morning when I opened the curtains, I saw the mist. That morning, 25 years ago, the mist was so thick, you could see nothing. And out of this mist came this sailing ship, Sardina, to lie in the bay in front of the hotel. It was such a spooky picture.”

The 73-room Lüderitz Nest Hotel is located on the ocean’s edge with its own private tidal beach and walk-on jetty and offers guests complimentary WiFi.

The Lüderitz Nest Hotel’s silver jubilee is a testament to its exceptional hospitality, breathtaking scenery, and commitment to providing guests with an unforgettable experience.
