NEWLY built, multi-million dollar facilities at Kuisebmond Beach, Walvis Bay, which opened just before Christmas, have been targeted by vandals and thieves.

On the first weekend, a lamp post was flattened by a reckless driver; more recently, thieves stole four doors and caused severe damage to another two doors, four door frames and a hand washbasin at the ablution blocks. One ablution block was also left without lights as the bulkhead fitting and its wiring were stolen.Rejoice Itembu, Communication Officer of the Municipality, said the damage amounts to thousands of dollars.”Such acts of vandalism are intolerable and are an indication to Council that some community members do not appreciate, and refuse to take ownership of, the recreational facilities that are being developed for them,” she said.She urged the community to help find the culprits.One ablution block was also left without lights as the bulkhead fitting and its wiring were stolen.
